Unauthorized use of pictures
I'm just curious that if someone happen to use my car's picture to promote something without asking me first, is it wrong? Personally I feel sort of offended that someone took the picture of my car, rub out my license plate, and use it on their site commercially, promoting a product that is on my car, which they claim is their product but is actually their competitor's product.
Just to clarify, I bought a product from company A, put it on my car, took pictures of it, post it on a thread a long time ago, then company B has a gallery of a similar product on E60s, and they took my pictures from the thread which I posted about the prodcut I got from company A, and use it as a picture in their gallery. I do not want to mention any names, until i find the actual identical picture, but without my license plate rubbed out. Actually i don't care, I just don't like it when someone use my stuff and not ASK!~
To the admins, I feel sort of offended that my pictures are being used without my consent will there be any sort of protection from that?, and I just wana say to the person who used my picture, "are you stupid?" its not your product on my car, its your competitor's product!!!

If you are easily offended by this don't post any personal pictures, you never know where they get used. Its wrong but there is nothing you can do about it unless your images are trademarked or copyrighted.

Since it's pretty tough to stop, some people/sites will include a watermark across the image to discourage using the photos. Take a look at the following thread -- it's not the first time this has happened...

Generally, if you took the pic, you have the copyright.
But it's hard to fight this.
So, see the internet as OPEN. What you put on the internet is available for everybody worldwide and can be used for anything.
There is nothing you can do to protect your stuff from beeing used by someone else other than not putting it on the web.

Alright, I'm not that bugged about it, actually i find it funny that the company actually think the product on my car is his, but instead its his competitor's. Never mind, end of thread, i dont' mind. Thanks guys.

As a professional sports and commercial photographer, I can tell you that while the person who takes a photo owns the copyright to the actual artwork (the image), you cannot just take a photo of anything and use it for comercial purposes.
Most U.S.-based profesional stock photographers register their images with the U.S. Copyright office to aid in protecting the copyright of the images they take (I am in Australia, so I don't - different laws).
To use something for commercial purposes, you must get a release from the owner. When dealing with people, its a model release, when it comes to property (such as your car), they should have obtained your permission at a minimum, and really should have obtained a property release from you before using your property in their image for commercial use.
How would you feel if someone took your photo in the street and then it was used on a large billboard around town without your permission and agreeing a fee for its use. Not likely - well your property is no different.
You have every right to ask them to remove the image - if you know for sure its yours - or better still, negotiate a fee for them using the image of your property. If you think even thngs like photos taken in national parks can be used without permission because a national park is 'public property' - think again. You need permission to use images for most 'public' locations as well if they are to be used for commercial purposes.
Personally, I'd send them an invoice with your fee for their use of your property in their image. Or you could just politely ask them to stop using it as they do not have a property release from you.
Regards,
Murray.

Murray is right. You should ask the particular company to remove your photos and I would also explain to them that the product they were displaying was actually from a competitor. In this Internet age, anything you post online in terms of text or pictures, is there for the taking, by anyone, anywhere.
