I have a feeling that the new 3.0 version of IP Board has features to limit signature size but I'm not very excited to upgrade to the new version for other reasons. There was a signature limitation mod we put in a couple years ago but has since stopped working due to various board upgrades and changes. Unfortunately, no updated version is available. I like the idea of having signatures display only once per member who posts in a thread, but again, probably a feature in the newer software. The only possibility we have now is to completely ban links and images from signatures so they would be text only but that's not something I want to do either.
I think this has to go the way of the avatar problem we had a few months back. Members need to police other members. Some signatures are obviously too large and I'm sure the members who have such signatures know who they are. I'd hope those long signatures would be modified and not just long signatures but any signatures with large pictures. Width is usually not a problem, height is the problem for photos. Signature pictures in my opinion shouldn't be more than 100 - 150 pixels in height. A general size maximum many forums seem to use is 600 x 100 pixels. Members with large photo's in their signatures may see such photos dissapear from their signature as I run into them.
