As far as width, I realize many don't care so much but I will say that a sig that's too wide will create the need for horizontal scrolling and to me, that's probably more of a pain than vertical scrolling...

To me, it's even more annoying when someone's signature forces me to scroll just to read their reply. It makes the automatic wrap feature different for that person's post than everyone else's...
