I am on the fence on a thread opening to the most recent post.

If I have kept up to speed on a thread, I know what the thread is about.

If it is new [to me] then I like to see the original post.

What do others of you think on this?

Are you describing behavior that is new since the forum software upgrade?

I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about -- unless I'm missing something, I think the new version acts just like the old version. You can go to the first post in a thread or to the first unread post depending on what you click -- just like before.

You may be correct, Rudy.

It seems that we used to open a thread and it would open to the first post and then we had an option [link] to go to the most recent post on the thread.

I can't go back so I will accept as is ... no big deal.

Here is an example ...

I opened joebaggg thread "red puddle light ..."

It took me to post #10. I then had to scroll back up to his original post the see details about the subject.

This, I think is new.

Rudy, when you opened this [my] post what were you directed to? I think it was this post and if you were not aware of what I was concerned about you would have to scroll back up the my original, to get started with the thread.

Is that not a new MO?

I think the behavior is the same as the old version. If you click on the topic title it will open the topic starting at the first post. If you click on the little orange square to the left of the topic title, it will take you to the first unread post of the topic. The topics with the little orange boxes to the left of the title are the ones with new posts since your last visit.

That's correct.
After the update ALL posts are new and ALL threads are unread.
So, this only works after the first visit of the upgraded forum.

To mark all posts read you have an option in the forum itself, in the upper right corner.
Or you can click the icon in front of the forums name when you are on the index page.

OK, OK I give up. However I tried one more time. Tell me what I am doing that y?all are not!

I went to the thread of bmellion, ?spacers for 172?s?. I clicked on the title ?spacers for for 172?s?. I did not fool with Mark?s little orange box.

The click took me to post #28 by bha 7176.

What am I doing different than you guys?

I?m going to pour me a Dewars!

g, night.

You might just want to stick to the Dewars and not worry about it...

To be honest, what you describe should not be happening but I'm going to have to play around a bit to see if it's something unique to you or if it's something more common.
