das or Lomag, is there any way to adjust the minimum characters allowed for searches?

Currently, if you try to search a word that is less than 4 characters, you get a message saying:

"One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters or you are searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords. "

Now normally, this might not cause a problem but on this board, I find myself always searching for things like: SMG, HUD, NAV, AS, FTM, TIS, M5, M3, E39, etc., etc., etc.

Any way to knock it down to 2 characters without causing any stress on the servers?

Hey Rudy,

The 4 characters limit seems to be set in the forum itself and can not be lowered if full text searching is enabled. Perhaps when version 2.0 is ready it'll be different. Keep this in mind for the future!

Sounds like a plan Mark. I'll try to remind you but I'll need someone to remind me first!

The first time you search for SMG, HUD, CVS . . . you will be reminded.

Thanks heezy. Now what do you do if you want to search for M5?

I know, I was just kidding.
Let's hope the new software will bring the fix. (Damn, I heard me saying that before to my dealer... )

I think heezy pretty much solved the problem for now. Although it would be nice to have it fixed, it's much more rare to need a two-character search so the star solution works for me.

The only thing you need to do after doing a "star search" (ha ha) is a slight modification to the resulting URL if you want the search term to be highlighted. For example, if you searched for "SMG*", at the end of the URL you'll see "&hl=SMG*" which attempts to highlight any occurrence of the search string. To have it highlight SMG, you'll need to remove the star at the end of the line.
