How do I upload pics to the forum that are too large?

Can anybody tell me why when I try to upload pics to the forums it says they are too large? I added one pic with my introduction and now in small print right next to "click to attach files" it says (Used 1.77 of your Unlimited global upload quota (Max. single file size: 2M
. How do I make pics smaller or use less MB, so I can upload? 
I know it's probably a really dumb question, but give me a break...I'm new. Please help!

If you have a PC one way is to open the picture with Microsoft Photo Editor and select 'image' from the toolbar - an option will be 'resize'. There you can make the picture smaller and thereby reduce the file size.
