15KB seems waaay too small. May I suggest allowing 150-200KB? Especially for those who want short animated gifs as avatars.

But in all seriousness, couldn't that be moderated? Have clear rules on it and have it enforced by moderators, reported by users. We have a fairly responsible and intelligent community so i would imagine it would be much easier to moderate than most internet forums.

We try not to moderate too much .. other than deleting spam or abusive threads. Avatars are meant to be small -- saving on the bandwidth

Alright that sounds fair. . Gonna see what kind of sorcery I can come up with to create a 15kb gif. Or I'll just go with the flow and get. Proper avatar.

Ok it wasn't easy but with a lot of work I managed to compress this 122KB gif:



into this 13,2KB gif:



Now it may not be as pretty but consider that I brought it down from 60 frames to 7 and from something like 32 colors to 4.
