2001 BMW 318i (E46)
I currently own a 2005 BMW 525i with around 40,000miles on the clock. Living in Africa, I plan to do a lot of long distance travelling, and is hoping not to sell the car before it reached 100,000miles. I was wondering if there are any E60 owners out there with high mileage cars, and what their thoughts are on the reliability of the E60 when it starts to hit the high miles.

My Ride: 520i SE, 04, 18" 245s, Sapphire Black, Cream leather.
I'm got 90k miles on mine and it still pulls clean and quick and has no rattles or squeaks.
I reckon, once it's serviced correctly and kept in good condition then it will stay in good condition.
these cars could go for 300k miles I reckon so 40-50k is still only a baby.

If your car has been serviced properly and you will continue to do so, your car should last you in excess of 100K miles or much much longer.

My Ride: MY2004 530d. Poverty spec
136000 miles here on a 530d. No problems, routine servicing. Only issue in my ownership was bonnet catches failing and needing replacement.
Just got back from a Europe trip. It's very nice to be cruising on the autobahns on a sunny Sunday morning at a steady 110mph. Feels just about right . Any higher and you start hearing some road noise .

I've replaced front struts, 2 batts, front cross member, (hit a pot hole nicknamed the 'Tire Snatcher'.) Insurance took care of that. Bill was 2K. Replaced CAT @ 145,200. Had maddening water leak @ rear passenger window. It was clogged weep holes. Virtually every other cost was maintenance related. Love this hooptie though, and I'm gonna hang on to it as long as I can, even if I get another one soon.

My Ride: 2004 545i Sport Pak
Just rolled mine over to 82K recently. looks brand new, even engine compartment. i baby it, and it has become sort of a sport to me to keep it looking brand new. replacing window gaskets, head light gaskets, things like that will be needed. same with wheel liners, these things were sort of meant to wear and be easily replaceable. I also had a lot of things go wrong between 30-60K with the N62, that were all addressed and fixed. now it seems all the bugs have been worked out. I hear valve seals could go next, waiting to see if that occurs. - that one will be a little harder to address.
next up in my preventative maintenance is to replace sway bar bushings, windshield gasket and some interior trim that paint is starting to flake off or was abused by first owner. and that pesky passenger side cup holder that my wife always complains about.
Here in the states a 2004 545i is worth about 5K USD at best. I couldn't come close to finding a car as fun and as fast or as good looking for 5K, so I plan to drive it to the grave.
