Hey guys, I’m about to install an oil catch can setup on my BMW E60 520d (163hp, M47 engine) and I have a few questions.
I ordered an adapter plate with an M24x1.5 thread and an AN12 fitting. From there, a hose will run to the IN side of the catch can.
Now I also have a hose coming from the OUT side of the catch can.
From what I understand, the OEM PCV system routes filtered crankcase vapors from the valve cover through a small hose into the intake system (before the turbo). This intake pipe usually gets very oily because the OEM system doesn’t separate oil very effectively.
My question is:
Where exactly should the OUT hose from the catch can go?
I assume it should connect back to the intake pipe where the original valve cover breather hose used to go (before the turbo). Is that correct?
Also, what should I do with the original PCV outlet on the valve cover? Do I just leave it disconnected and block it off, or is it still supposed to be used in some way?
And one more thing: is it okay if my adapter plate doesn’t replace the entire PCV system, like in the picture I attached?
