Default Timing Chain test m57

Hello. I have a m57 525d 197 hp with a manual gearbox with about 300,000 km.The timing chain has not been replaced yet. Is there any way to know its condition?Whether physically or with diagnostics? I have ISTA D and INPA installed on my computer. Thank you in advance.

If you're not throwing any codes, I wouldn't really worry about it.

What codes should he/we be looking out for? I thought the chains started rattling (or maybe not) and let go....

Timing retard codes for the most part but your first indication should be coming from your morning start up. If you are concerned just change your valve cover gasket and have a peak to see how clean you are. Taking that off will give you a great indication of the maintenance history of the engine. If it's clean then do an oil change and keep on moving. These E60s are not known for chain issues unless it wasn't taken care of. If you have no slap or codes then there's no issue. Just keep oil changed at a reasonable interval. There's cars out here over 400k on the original chain and I'm sure more.

A little update on the topic. My vacuum seal leaked and I had to change it. I managed to touch the chain and found that when shaking (left, right) it moves slightly. Is there a reason to worry? Thank you
