Default 2006 530 XiT Water Pump

Every time I scan my car (usually looking at air suspension faults) there is a water pump fault listed. I always clear it but it always comes back. The fault is "water pump speed out of range - not currently present". Is this a real problem, or some sort of glitch? The car has never shown any sign of overheating.

I'd start budgeting for a new water pump, and making the decision on whether you want to replace it at a time and place of your choosing or the pump's, keeping in mind that if the pump makes the decision you won't have much time at all to get the engine shut down.

Post no. 7 of this thread (https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=584641) may be of interest... that poster reported about 10k miles between getting the initial error code and pump failure.

My understanding of the code you're getting is that the computer is identifying a mismatch between how fast it's telling the pump to run, vs. how fast it's actually running (almost certainly too slow). Have you tried reading the codes with the engine running at operating temperature? If you're just reading it with the engine off (or cold), that might explain why it's reporting "not currently present". Also, if your radiator fan starts to run faster / longer or cabin heat output gets more tepid, those are other indicators that the pump is having a hard time circulating coolant and is on its way out.

OK, I got a new pump and thermostat, and began to replace them last week. I got everything apart up to the last step, which is removing the rear hose from the pump. I can't see any way to do that, and even if I somehow succeeded in removing the hose, how would I ever get the hose back on to the new pump? So, I just put it back together again, until I can either 1) find someone to do it, or 2) figure out how to do it myself. I have been doing my own work for 56 years, and have never had to give up before, but this BMW has me beaten. If anyone has done this job (on a 530 XiT, not an E60), please clue me in to how it can be done. Thanks.
