Default Is walnut blasting nesessary on 550i

I thought walnut blasting was only really necessary on the 6 cyl engines with direct injection but today an Indy shop recommended I get it done on my 550i, Is this really necessary as the intake valves have clean air passing through them? It doesn't make sense why it would need to be done but they are telling me it will run so much better, better mpg and all. I fell like they just want the money for something that's not even necessary
Any input would be greatly appreciated

How many miles on engine? How does it run? What are the MPG? What fuel has been used? Has any of these items deteriorated lately? I wouldn't do anything unless I knew that the valves were carbonized. My 2005 545 has 200K miles and no sign of any carbon buildup.

No - walnut blasting is not necessary on the n62. It uses port injection so the intake ports are constantly being cleaned by fuel. Is there a reason they suggested it?

i get that but it's still messed up to have someone pay for a job that doesn't need to be done to begin with.

Thats what I thought, was just confused when someone that does this for a living tried to tell me that it was necessary and should be done..

Either your Indie doesn't know what he/she is talking about or he/she is trying to "snow" you for money. In either case I would change Indie.
