Is it normal to add coolant and how often/up to what amount?

I have been adding just whatever amount it takes to go from the low mark to high mark on the reservoir float once or twice a year recently with no visible signs of any leaks,(suspect the coolant pipe and in the valley pan it evaporates I suppose), as it is just a small amount.

A few mL a couple times a year is OK. 100mL a few times a month is not OK. Look for dried residue to pinpoint leaks.

This summer checked and added to bring it to high mark, now 4 months after I added 1 quart of coolant to bring to high mark again.
Was not sure if this is normal?

That sounds like a lot. Does your 'low coolant' warning come on?

How many miles did you do between additions or how many running hours?

Use a UV light to look for coolant leaks. Coolant shows up like radioactive slime under UV light.
Harbor Freight has a UV flashlight for about $7 and it works great. That is how I found a leaking fitting that was basically ready to fall apart.
I have the N62 V8 and it was the Y connector for the upper head return lines. The fitting was make from something like Bakelite and was falling apart.
I replaced it with a brass T.

No coolant warning message, just checked and added 1 quart after 4 months.
Around 1300 miles between additions.
Will get UV light-thanks for the tip, checked with phone light noticed small coolant amount on top front of the engine, see the 1st attached picture showing the direction/location.
Pictures 2, 3 and 4 are taken from website source with exposed area, arrows pointing where little coolant was noticed.
This could be damaged hose, cracked Y connector or loose clamp, will have to check closer after removing top engine covers.
Is removing the intake manifold a must in this situation?
How complicated it is to get access to this area?

Ordered a complete hose with 2 clamps, based on pictures it should not be too complicated to replace it.

About UV flashlight, is this detecting coolant without having to add any dye or having to use glasses?
