Default e60 DSC relocation. Finally

Hello all,

I am very excited to get started with this project. Many individuals are pained by the location of the DSC in the e60 5 series. Here I will show what needs to be done to move the DSC from the engine bay to the M5 location in the drivers fender.

Here is a picture of the parts needed.

M5 bracket parts. *** #4 part #.... 07-14-6-971-298. QTY(3) ***

Lines used:
(1) 26" -6an line 90 & straight (anplumbing.com)
(1) 26" -4an line 90 & straight (anplumbing.com)
(2) 18" -3an line straight & straight (summit)
(3) 18" -3an line 90 & straight (summit)

Fittings:
(2) M12x1.0 male / -6an male (pegasusautoracing.com)
(2) copper washer for above fitting (pegasusautoracing.com)
(2) M12x1.0 male / -4an male (anplumbing.com)
(3) M12x1.0 male / -3an male (anplumbing.com)
(3) M10x1.0 male / -3an male (summit)
(4) m10x1.0 female / -3am male (summit)

One last look:

Bracket Prep. *** This was done while waiting for the steel braid lines and fittings. ***

Test fitting. Some modification necessary to avoid brake lines.. I wasn't comfortable with the brake rubbing and do not want to install any M5 brake lines.

all kinds of rubbing going on back there.

the bracket cut...

Installed around oem brake lines. See the new bolt hole location on the top left I had to drill.

Made use of some old radiator hose to further protect the brake lines.

I cut the bracket a touch more to make room for brake lines.

Fully installed... I may remove that silver bracket as I think the fender liner can hold up the underbody guard. I will test it tomorrow. *** I did remove this ***

Draining the fluid:

Separating the wire harness while the fluid drains:

Once the system was drained I test fit one of the lines.....success!

Now it is time to flush the rears. This does not happen at the rear calipers. flush at unions for rear lines.

One end installed while flushing the line from the DSC.

Time to work on the fronts. Remove union, both lines will be used.

Here is all the ends prepped and patch lines installed. Lines were traced back to the DSC and labelled.

After all lines are labelled on both ends, it is time to remove the DSC.

Prepping the DSC with new fittings.

Installed:

I used the original bolt but found some washers and made it work:

Time to work on the brake booster:

M12x1.0 / -4an installed. This is where the 26" -4an line will attach:

M12x1.0 / -6an installed. The -6an line hooks up to the black fittings.

Lines installed:

Kind of a rats nest:

Passenger Front Patch line.

Better shot:

A quick shot: only two more lines to remove.

I have two lines to remove that go from the rear line unions to the passenger side engine bay. They are not really in the way, I have a few options.

Should I:

1. Cap them off and leave them there?
2. Cut them out?
3. Remove the coolant lines and remove?

I am pretty sure I will remove them so I can return the car back to stock if need be. Work continues in the morning.

Ok, I will be cutting them out. lol Here is where I am at

Today was more about prep work for the wire harness and cleaning up a few other things while I have a chance. I may reroute part of the wire harness on the passenger side and have a new location for boost solenoids.

First I flipped the clip so the wires come out the other side.

Label prep work

Duplicates labelled on both sides of the cut.

Wire harness cut. I cut all wires individually to prevent a possible short even thought the power is discharged.

Wire harness prep station:

Practicing, it's been a while.

The bracket....

Bracket...

Removed...

Tomorrow I will go get the rest of the wire I need to make the harness. I will also be working on a few projects simultaneously as I put the car back together.

The project was a success. I have so much editing to do to complete this thread, but in the mean time I have some detailed pictures of where my car is currently at. check it out....
