Price for tranny job????

Default Price for tranny job????

i have a 07 550i with 143k miles now my tranny is slippin 1st 2nd and now 3rd gear is acting up. got my first tranny malfuction symbol yesterday. my indy guy said he can get a tranny with 100k miles and whatever else comes with the tranny job for $4526.00 is this a good deal? i live in Jacksonville Florida

sounds pricey to me. where is he getting the gearbox from and how much is he getting it for?

I would shop around. I just found one with 68k for $1700 shipped. Check on eBay or check out the attached pick for something close to you. There is one with 53k for $1700 in Dover FL.

I would also be looking for another Indy. That was way too much for a 100k tranny. I hate when shops try to take advantage of people.

yes im gonna keep looking. they said its that much bc its has a 2 yr warranty. vice the ebay trannies that only have a 6 month warranty.

naw thats too much. should be 2K or less for a used gearbox.

Lol that is real funny. $1500 markup for a 2 year warranty. Believe me when I say if a tranny goes bad before 30k (15k average per year) then it was not good to begin with. Get one below 90k and you will be good for at least 5 years. Also make sure you are changing the tranny fluid every 30k or so. These transmissions are hard to kill. If I were you I would find someone to put it in for cheap ($400) and do everything else myself. I have a person in Tampa that will do it for $350 if you provide the fluid. Don't get hood winked. Shop around if you're not willing to pay a lot for it. "Just because you have the money doesn't mean you should waste it" is the motto I live by.
