Default DSC & 4x4 malfunction

2007 530XI- E60

After a dead battery I started having 4x4 and DSC malfunction. I believe this is somewhat related to steering angle sensor so I hooked up INPA and I can see that under PT-CAN the steering angle tracks the degree as I turn the steering but half way through gives up and resets and starts again.

is this bad Steering Angle Sensor or Clock Spring?

Whenever the battery is disconnected or goes completely dead, the steering angle sensor needs to be recalibrated. Try turning the wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right and see if it corrects the problem.

Thank you Eaton. Doing so (Turn left-right) resets and fixes the issue momentarily but it comes back as I turn the steering to the left.

With INPA running I can see the PT-CAN where the Steering Wheel Sensor is tracked resets as I am turning the steering wheel.

I am wondering if the steering wheel sensor needs to be replaced or is it just the clock spring. Also I dont have issues with Steering wheel buttons.

Sounds like you have a bad steering angle sensor then. It seems to be a somewhat common failure Part.
