Default '08 528i N52b30 engine dies at redlight and almost stalls at under 3000rpm

Hi Everyone,

Newb here, first time posting. So you know it must be bad.
Let me start by saying i love my car and have been going thru my worst nightmare now. Just can seem to find the light at the end of the tunnel, so Im hoping someone here can shed some light.

car is 2008 528i N52b30 3.0 inline 6

all started with PCV valve needing replacement so Valve cover was replaced. At same time Crankshaft sensor issue, so sensor also replaced.
Next Camshaft intake and outlet correlation errors. both camshaft sensors replaced.
Next found a loose tensioner that was also replaced.
Next found a cracked cooland reservoir that was also replaced.
Next found leak around oil housing so gasket was replaced that also might have leaked on to alternator so guess what, that was replaced too.
Oh BTW...no warranty or coverage....ALL OUT OF POCKET

Now my car seems to want to shutoff at low rpm when waiting at a redlight. It has actually turned off a few times.

Once i start going right before 3000 rpm i feel a jerking motion almost like someone rearended me

got one diagnostic at a indy shop who said they needed to replace my vanos.
seems alittle drastic when they didint even open the valve cover, and basing it solely on camshaft correlation errors that were on scanner.

Ive read many threads but now hoping someone could chime in and see what has helped them out.

Anything short of pulling the VC off again I would go through the motions and follow every plug I unplugged. I would secure them again. Also check to make sure there are no vacuum leaks. I have had the same issue you are having replacing various parts around the engine. It has always been either an unplugged cable (80% of the time) or a hose that was not put back on/crack in a hose. Did you get a all OE or OEM? That could also be an issue. The vanos could very well be the issue but I doubt it because it is too much of a coincidence. If after you check everything and you are still having the issue go get a second opinion or just buy the two vanos and change them yourself.

Hi Thanks for the response. All parts have been replaced with Genuine Parts from BMW. i went ahead and took the car to the dealer to have them diagnose it for a second opinion. I also have downloaded the INPA software and building a VM and ordered K+dcan cable so i can also try and diagnose.

Ok. What did the dealership say? You also do not need to build a VM for INPA. It will work on your native desktop unless you are running MAC
