Exclamation Something is seized - need help

2007 530D LCI approx 90,000km.

The other day the serpentine belt seized after starting the car. Was running fine before - no noises or anything.

I suspected the water pump - had a little play - so I replaced it yesterday.

Also replaced belts.

Same issue on restarting - engine runs but belt is stuck.

Checked all the fuses - none blown.

All idlers and tensioner feel fine.

Two possible culprits are steering pump and alternator but both turn smoothly.

Could either lock up when running?

Anybody else had this issue?

Thumbnail has codes from ISTA - 90896 km was about the point of failure

Cheers

I would look at the crank pulley and tensioner pulleys. You should find your problem there

Bugger you for being right.

The crank pulley is spinning on itself big time.

Just need to find out how to lock the crank to get the old one off - something about a pin near the starter?

So this is what the pulley looks like now.

Found a small chunk of rubber on the engine tray but didn't think anything of it at the time.

I made a tool to lock the pulley from the front since I couldn't get under the car safely where it is. Wish they sold them for this model.
