Hey guys. Im having issues on accessing some of the bolts on the upper timing cover. Is there a DIY for our 550i models out there because all i see are 545i DIYs that are somewhat the same but not quite or can someone shed some light and tell me if there is an easier way to get the bottom right bolt that is between the ac lines out without taking the lines out? Thanks you guys. i will post up pictures of what im talking about in a bit. its very frustrating

This was a very difficult task. I don't know if there is a better way but this is how I got it done. I first removed the valve cover driver side. There are a few vacuum lines and hoses going from the front of the engine going down the frame next to the engine, driver side. Move the hoses out of the way, you will then see a clamp which holds the two oil cooler lines together. Remove the Clamp screw. You will then be able to spread the two oil lines pushing it out of the way to be able to get a wrench in there to undo that bolt. I knew this day would come so I took a few pics. The clamp screw was very difficult to remove and I had to improvise. I used a tiny ratchet with a screw driver head. After the job was done I could not get the screw back in so I zip tied it.

That is what I was thinking I was going to have to do. Haven’t tried to take that screw out yet but will try tonight after work.

With your help I got that little screw loosened enough to get that bottom bolt off the timing cover. I didn’t take the screw all the way off since you couldn’t get it back on.
Now on to the other bottom bolt that is behind the alternator. Got to take the serpentine belt off still to lower the alternator.
Any advise on that process would be greatly appreciated!
I was changing my alternator at the same time so I had removed my alternator before I started this job. I think once you remove the belt and probably the tensioner, you should be able to remove one of the the alternator bolts and slide the alternator out of the way. If you have to remove the alternator pay attention to how the alternator wires connect(placement) as it sits in the bracket. I would take a pic before removing the wires.
