I am about to do some suspension work on the E61. Was wondering if the rear air springs would be considered a wearable item that should be replaced every 100k miles or something? If so, I will do them while I am in the area of the rear suspension. They do not look that difficult to do, nor are they that expensive.....

Mine are 135.000 kilometers old and good, so don't think a wearable item, most times the compressor is going down earlier

 

Wearable ? maybe not. Limited lifespan - defiantly. About 8 years is the norm.

 

Does it really go by age though, or by mileage? I'd have expected the latter, not just by age.

 

Mines are over 10 years .......

 

If they have a lifespan, then they would be considered wearable to me.....

Mine are 10 years old and 336.000 km on the clock. Still going strong!
But I've already replaced the compressor...
