I posted this in the E60 Bluetooth forum by mistake. It was written for the F10.

1. Before you begin, enable DVD in motion to prevent video lockout with car in motion.
http://dvdinmotion.com/how-it-works

2. Install Slingbox Pro on your cable box at home. This will enable cable TV to your smartphone.

3. Install this Video/camera interface for 2009 and up BMW Vehicles with Gen 3 (CIC) iDrive controls. Compatible with 2009 and up BMW 3 series (E90) and 7 series (F01 / F02), the 2010 and up 5 series (F10), most 2010 and up X5/X6 vehicles and the 2011 X3.

4. See this on your phone...

5. Connect a video cable (requires a phone with HDMI out) I use Droid Bionic by Verizon...

And see this on your I-Drive Control Panel

CCC is just as easy:

BMW56 CAN (BMW 5 SERIES / 2008, USA)
Video/camera input for 2004 and up BMW vehicles with original iDrive (CCC) controls and LVDS.

Simply amazing setup! Have you tried to display computer desktop on CIC screen? :-)

@ wnrussell,

Can you use the phone interface cradle instead of the HDMI cable? I imagine that if we can see music videos using the cradle it might also work for the TV.

Thanks for the great write up.

The phone is mirrored to the CIC/ CCC, so use VNC Viewer on the phone to see it.

I use the Google Finance and other apps to see real time; what's on the phone shows up in the car.

It should work; phone interface cradle needs HDMI out pass through.

The Motorola Xoom also works if you talk alot on your phone, as the data disconnects the Slingbox session.

Also, you need Slingbox Pro. The old Slingbox won't allow HDMI out.

I will check this post daily to answer questions.

I have Autonet Carfi for the Slingbox. I can see my desktop and transfer files also. Netflix and streaming video works great. Not everybody has unlimited cell data, so it's ideal for media. Anyone who has a Skype account can really take advantage of the Autonet Mobile in-car ISP as they can call relatives or for hotel bookings without putting a strain on your cell phone bill. Emails and streaming video, not a problem with the Autonet Mobile in-car ISP as it can go in speeds to even 1 Mbps as you watch some of your favorite shows on YouTube or Veoh without having to resort to bringing your stockpile of DVDs. Slingbox owners will be thrilled to watch their local channels as they cruise the roads somewhere out there.
