Is this plug and play or do you need the dealer to code it as well?

is not plug and play...it requires programming..Call around for BMW Certified Shop...try a lot of thema nd get a quote for reprogramming and install IPOD...

I called 1st place...quote me $500 for install and reprogram! what a rip off!

I called 2nd place..quote me $138 for install and reprogram...GOOGLE your BMW CErtified Shop and ask!

it doesnt matter if it is your thing called BMW certified shop or Dinan authorized shop... bmw dealer is dealer if they have reprogramming stuff available... so next time just say bmw shop...

also it is plug and play for gateway 500 if they already have cd changer programmed.. if not they have to get that programmed...

so if i want to change my ipod interface to gateway 500 it is plug and play

I guess thats no good for me!

We only have ONE authorised dealer here, and they will NOT do anything that involves parts not purchased from them!

For the most part you will need to get some kind of programming done. It really depends on your car and what features you have. I know some people who had a cdc and just installed the interface and it automatically recoginzed it, but did display mp3 text, so they had to go to the dealer to have mp3 text programmed. I just had my car reprogrammed at astounmical rate of 550 because they said the programming failed several times. However, my friend had his done for about $150.00. Just check around. It might be a little higher if you live in area where there are limited dealers, but if you're in a area where there are alot dealers, try to neg or lie and say so and so quoted me ...
