Any truth to this? I'm wanting to see if the difference in intakes makes a magnaflow exhaust system sound any different. My assumption is no... but I keep seeing this one video with magnaflow/AFE that sounds completely different than magnaflow/BMC.

If you want to improve sound I'd go with a Burger tuning DCI(dual cone intake) over an aFe intake. With either there is always a possibility of heat soaking issues, but at least the Burger tuning DCI has shown HP increases on dyno, as opposed to aFe which has shown losses on dyno. One thing you do have to realize about E60 construction however is that the engine bay is so insulated compared to other BMW models that intakes won't effect sound as much as it would as say a 3 series.
