Angry

Hi everyone,

Had to offload my 5-wagon unfortunately, however good stuff for you guys here that I can't use any longer:

M5 SMG shift knob retrofit, including wiring harness (steptronic) - used for a couple months in like new condition other than some stitching marks on the leather harness from where I stitched it to my shift boot. - bought from Schulrog for $335 plus shipping

- 250 paypalled/shipped

M5 idrive knob - only used for 2 months. Looks like new - no scratches anywhere.

- 50 paypalled/shipped

OEM iPod controller for idrive systems. Used for a few months, so basically new. The pre-wiring plug in kit (linking the optical fiber cables to the power cord) is still in the car but can be purchased from BMW if you don't already have it. (those with cd changer already have it). Bought from Schulrog for 289 plus shipping.

- 200 shipped.

Open to offers but please be cool as I think the prices are pretty fair, or if they're not let me know.

If you want everything take it for 425 paypalled and shipped!

Cheers,
Brad

Hi Brad,

How does the M5 shift gear work on a steptronic?

On a normal steptronic all the gear changes are in one straight column with manual selected by shifting left.

But with the pattern on the M5 shifter, the N, R, D are going horizontal. Surely the mechanical steptronic doesn't start going horizontal in it's actions?

Doe this mean it doesn't follow the pattern on the gear shifter and one has to remember what the old shift pattern is?

Could be a problem with someone new jumping into the car and looking at the pattern on the shifter, selecting D and instead going backwards into the wall.

Action on the gear shift is exactly the same on the steptronic. P, R, N, and the arrow lights up in drive mode. When switching left to DS or manual the knob is not lit up, which is the difference in the pattern from the SMG on a real M5. It's a cosmetic replacement for a 5-series leather/titanium knob, there's no mechanical changes to the shifting.

almost every automatic car i've driven follows the same shifting pattern, so if someone forgets that Drive is at the bottom on their car....can't help them there.
