These parts are used for supporting the new style iDrive controller - there is a support part and a frame part required to properly retrofit the new controller and they must be ordered from Germany.
Here is pic of the 2009+ style controller installed into a 2008 with these parts:

Fair enough - These parts work perfectly on my 2008 model E60. I should have said that in the first post. I don't know what else they fit in because I have only installed on my 2008 LCI.

No problem, hope everything is cool. There's like 5 of us that have these parts laying around because it didnt work on pre-lci models. Glad it works on LCI cars. GLWS

I actually wish I would have kept these installed. I had a great looking install with these parts but maybe only 99% perfect because I cut my bamboo trim just a little too much and a small gap in the corner. I tried for 100% perfect by getting one of the fatter frames and actually had a much harder time getting that to fit.
So, my opinion... LCI owners should go with this frame and get an OEM type fit in the center console then cut the trim to fit the shape of the frame.

So des this mean all LCI E60 owners with a CCC can use the new CIC controller in place of the single knob/menu button? Will all the features of the new CIC controller be functional on the CCC? If so im interested

Yes - nelson29 has a great thread on the CIC retrofit project which discusses the part where the iDrive controller can be upgraded with some detailed photos on the process. As long as you have CCC software current the new controller works.
There are pics in theat thread also of three type of frames for the controller.
