My Ride: 2006 530i Sport - Stock
Default FS/FT: E60 AFE Intake for L6

FS/FT - Trade preferred.

I have an AFE Intake on my 2006 530i that I would like to remove and replace with your stock intake system. My AFE intake includes the cowl, filter (not in good condition, but useable), and the plastic tube that runs back to the throttle body. MAF is not included (I want to keep the one I have).

Looking to make an even trade: Your stock intake for my AFE intake. This is a great deal if you are in the market for an AFE intake for your E60 6-cylinder!

Would consider selling as is for $250.

PM me for more information and pictures. I am in AZ.

^ Really? I've never heard of aFe "downgrading" the performance over a restrictive stock intake. Do you have dyno charts, or other evidence of such?

Yea was going to pick one up about 2 weeks about decided to google and see what other e60 owners thought and the results from them on the dyno were terrible. basically on the NA engines it turned the intake into a hot air sucker on a hot day which then put the car in limp mode on turbos the afe is great but on the NA not so much

Do you have any links to these threads you found, claiming heat-soak and limp mode? I just performed multiple Google searches with various Boolean terms and came up with nothing. In fact, thus far, I've only been able to find evidence refuting your claim.
Just sayin'...
Cold Air Intake System Stage-2 Magnum FORCE Stage-2 PRO 5R Intake System; BMW 5-Series (E60) 06-09 L6-3.0L 54-11042 - aFe Power

Also, for what's it worth, based on Race Precision, Inc's website, they only sell a drop-in filter for the stock air box, and a fabricated metal box which "ram air" forces flow into the airbox area. Thus, I would suspect, adding this RPI "ram-air box" with the aFe intake would produce even greater gains.
At best, the airbox intakes will only net 8-10 hp/tq, and with driveline loss, this will really only feel like greater throttle response, so the gains would be marginal.

e60eric; Can you speak to the performance of the aFe intake that you had on your 2006 e60 530i n52 engine? At this point in time, I would lean towards the opinion of someone with actual experience with the intake, as opposed to someone who said they did some Google searches and "heard" these intakes caused limp mode..."this one time, I searched google and I heard..."

Just for clarification, we are discussing the intake system for an N52B30 inline six, NOT the N62B48TU in the 550i.

@jfmartin25 - Thanks for keeping my post alive. I am not sure what the other posters intention was, but the discussion of opinions and research doesn't seem appropriate in the classified section.

I, too, have no reason to doubt aFe's claims of increased torque and power. I can't say I've done a direct comparison to other E60s or dyno'ed my car, but the car has great throttle response and you can really hear the engine sing its lovely song at high rpms. The stock intake is a sound muffler - in fact, that is BMWs technical description of what people typically call the "air box" - and mufflers reduce airflow. The aFe intake is basically a straight pipe to the throttle, with a filter in front, of course.

I bought the car a few years ago because its a beautiful machine and I enjoy it for what it is. I just thought someone else who is looking for performance gains might take the fantastic opportunity to make an EVEN TRADE for this intake system which sells for $300+ new.
