Yes you will need to have it programmed so that it shows as an option in the iDrive. Dealers can do this or find someone who uses NCSExpert in your area or AutoLogic for that matter. High end independent dealers will have AutoLogic.

This the cable you need. Also if your looking for someone to code your car in NJ go over to bmwcoding.com and put up a post requesting coding. You'll have better results there.

John at motorcepts can code your car to accept aux but he will not install an aftermarket aux cable which is no big deal because the install is pretty simple. My local dealer gave me a quote of $300 plus tax for the oem cable, install and coding. I will let everyone know how everything works out...
