Ahh, a conspiracy theory!!!

But what possible reason would their be for Top Gear to hide this information? Do we truly believe that they would have all those other times available yet "hide" the 545's because it suffered the humiliation of a loss to the 535? These guys are in the TV business and they would have gotten more and better telly out of a story about a diesel beating BMW's (at the time) top V8 model, don't you think?

(Even it were true. Which of course it isn't )

Or perhaps a more plausible explanation is that they just didn't do a timed run for the 545?

Ah ... but they WANT you to believe that there is no reason to twist the facts ... otherwise EVERYONE would realise that it is a conspiracy to promote petrol sales (led by that enron bunch IMO)

Seriously though ... I'm pretty certain the 545i is going to be the faster car - especially in a straight line and off the mark.

But .... I'm quite certain that they rigged the end - the 535d was right behind the 545i during the race and Clarkson just wanted to make a point.

Ive got this on my Sky plus and Ive watched it loads of times. Ive counted a 4 second lead when they cross the finish line, as you say the lead wasnt that big.

Well, I did the only decent thing and sent an email to TopGear to ask for their side of the story and highlighted this nonsense that we're getting from you 535d guys If I get a reply I'll post it here. Hope they do so we can put this to bed once and for all
