My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
I got the new BMW Magazine (4/2006) today and there was some interesting reading (on page 31)
about the 6-speed automatic transimission.
Not only is the new trans 50% faster but it also saves some 3% gas and even 6% of diesel.
I just fell in love with the new E70, a 3.0 d for me, please

Just one push on the DSC and you drive only with the DST - it's great!
I know that Audis DSG can, with a doubble clutch, jump a few gears.
The BMW Mag article do not tell that much :'( , but I quote
"the converter replaces the clutch"..."an automatic clutch bridges over this
torgue converter"..."and link the engine directly with the transmission."
So very far from your wishes the trans is not.

My Ride: (USA) 645Ci, Silver Gray, Chateau, Cold Weather PKG, Premium Sound PKG, Sport PKG, Step, NAV [Std Equip in 645], HUD, Satellite (SIRIUS) Radio, Aux Input, Bluetooth enabled using iPhone 3GS w/ adapter cradle - Build date - 01/05, Baby delivered 2/24/05
I do not have the quote right at hand but the new STEP in the e92 supposedly will drop 4 gears (6/2, 5/1) under certain conditions. I believe I saw this in "official" press release material. Over on E90post.com they are modding the heck out of the 335i engine and getting some wild numbers for 1/4 et and trap speeds in a STEP tranny. Nice to see. I am hoping the tranny new technology is slated for the 6er next model year as I expect to trade my MY05 for MY08.

plus a small facelift.
But if BMW doesn't do it in March - they will in September!
