Motorweek drives the new 5
#1
Just watched the latest Motorweek on Speed. There is about 2 minutes of video on E60 with commentary. This is different then the last one (an FYI news blip). I have it recorded on my new ReplayTV. I have it copied over to my PC already. I just need to edit it and should be able to send it to Das later.
Edit:
You can get it here now.

das;
I keep getting this error every time I try to open this Motorweek video:
Unable to download an appropriate decompressor.
Any advice?

I must have encoded this clip with Windows Media Player 9 (using Movie Maker in Windows XP). Same as the BMWFilms clips, I believe. RichReg, are you running Windows XP with Windows Media Player 9 (this is what I am running)? If you are running Windows XP and Windows Media Player 8, it should still be able to download the decompressor and play. I am not sure if it works on Windows 2000 or Windows 9x.
If nothing works, I can try encoding it to MPEG, but the file size will be larger and quality will not be as good.

No, I am running Windows NT '95. I don't think its your encoding...I've been getting the error message since the clip first surfaced about a month and a half ago. I can play BMWFilms with no problem at all.

The clip from 1.5 months ago what also encoded by me using Windows XP's Movie Maker (WMV9 encoder). I am pretty sure you can't play it in Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95. I guess the BMWFilms were encoded with the version 8 encoder, or just MPEG, that's why you could play it. Anyhow, if you have not seen the first clip (30 seconds long, a preview from MotorWeek), try this MPEG version first at http://mirror.services.wisc.edu/mirrors/temp/E60.mpg.
If this works for you, I can recode the new clip (2.5 minutes long) in MPEG 1 and send it to Das. PM me if you want me to send the MPEG version directly, when I have it encoded later.

Litster;
Thanks...Now I remember a bit more about what happened when the first clip came out. This MPEG one you sent me plays fine, but there is no sound. Oddly enough, the SECOND Motorweek clip(2.5 minutes) when played v.i.a. Windows Media, has sound but no picture. Strange.....
Incidentally, I visited my dealer last night and I don't know if you or das knows this but, that ordering guide that you received a copy of is not complete. BMWNA actually has an entire brochure in color (similiar to the one from the U.K. that das posted) with lots of pictures and text (see Kalach's recent photos). They are printed right before the standard features and option pages, so its kind of like a brochure disguised as an ordering guide, which it clearly states on the cover. I wanted the original to keep, but of course, he wouldn't give it up.......
