The Forbes Unreliable Luxury Car list is on Yahoo:

http://biz.yahoo.com/weekend/unreliable_1.html

I suppose it's good news that of 14 cars, BMW only has 2 on the list, 1/2 that of MB's 4.

That entire list is screwed up and I don't see how Forbes gathers its information. Maybe they ask their little knephews to draw a list of the coolest luxury cars in the industry and thats what they came up with.

I don't see how an S-class MB can be unreliable. My parents have had their S500 for 4 yrs and not one major problem (touch wood). And how do they have a E60 on the list. I haven't had one major problem with the car....yes small minute problems but 'the most unreliable'...com'on Forbes...do a better job next time

I think Forbes is just quoting Consumer Reports and I am not sure that that outfit gathers data from a sufficient number of owners to ensure accuracy. This report does not reflect my experience at all. I've seen previous Forbes articles that somewhat trashed BMW and I wouldn't be surprised to find that they are trying to squeeze some advertising $'s out of them.

For the e60 they are only looking at 2004 Models which is why they saw so many issues. That is also why they say don't by the first year of a new model. What BMW needs to do is start a beta testing program by distributing 1000 vehicles of a given model to all parts of the world. Let people use them as they would in real life..not a testing ground.

I would be ok with being a guinea pig!

They use Consumer Reports' data - it's only as accurate as the number of replies, however, over time, I've agreed with their data. Things like software problems, creaky doors, tranny slamming, etc, etc etc are all considered flaws, and if you answer the survey and mention these things, it's considered a complaint.

All of the computer problems that we have experienced likely put the '04 E60 on the list. I lost 43 accumulative days in the shop with mine.

I have a 2004 E60 and have not had any problems. I guess I am one of the few lucky ones

Wow, that is a long time without your car.
How is it driving now?

I too have an '04 545i but have not had any issues other than the ocassional window trap malfunction. I would hardly call that an 'unreliability' issue.

I agree with most of the list .. I have MB s430. Its a piece of s*&t. Complete suspension failure at 55,000 miles. $6,000 to fix. Exterior trim melting like butter in a garage kept car. Sad thing is I cant sell it cause I would get $28,000 for a car I spent $80,000 and it has only 60,000 miles.

My friend bought a 2005 545 and has not had a problem yet. Maybe its the complex electronics but that has nothing to do with suspension or trim failures. MB wont even admit these failures are abnormal as they dismiss them as normal wear and tear. So if these failures are normal for Mercedes ..then screw your cars.. My current Sl500, S430, ML320 will be the last ones I will buy from you!
