Just read the autospies article on m5 vs s6 vs e63amg.

M5 was last. This is not the only article,; there are others as well.

Any thoughts

Automag writers typically don't know their ass from a hole in the ground....

Plus, there is a lot of anti-BMW bias out there in the media. How boring would their jobs be if they told the truth and said BMW was the best all the time?

I think in the article they tested the manual M5, while the others were not. Apparently the M5 is way better with SMG. So it was an unfair test. But making unfair tests against BMW is common. Remember a couple of years ago when the Swedish automag did a handling test of several cars, including the E60? They turned off the DSC and DTC, and then made the BMW swerve badly in a test. But they didn't say in the article that the traction control was turned off. But when they tested the competing cars, they left traction control on. VERY dishonest. They were intentionally trying to make BMW look bad.

Anyway, BMW saw this test, and conducted it again on their own.... but with DSC and DTC on.... and it passed with flying colors. They had the writers from that magazine present when they re-tested.... just to shove their noses in it. Classic.

There have been a number of consecutive tests with the same outcome. I really don't think it has anything to do bias, the other cars are just better packages. The most common complaint levelled against the automotive media is that there is a bias in favor of BMW.

BTW one of the tests was with SMG.

ya, remember that the E60 M5 is the "oldest" car in that test.

When BMW unveils their newest lines they are ALWAYS the best and win every comparison to the current offerings by other manufacturers, it usually takes Audi and Mercedes a couple of years to retaliate, and often times it's not even enough (case in point, every S4 ever built)

Ya ya! I still don't buy it. Plus US gets the watered-down LC and the slightly reduced power as far as i know. Not searching for excuses cuz i know even so the M5 will win hands down.

Don't let a test/mag change your opinion. See other post regarding the S6 vs 550i LCI.

I know that the M5 is still the king. No car can dethrone it now: not the pumped up A6, not the E63 AMG and for sure nothing else (that includes that nonsense Masserati). Until the new RS6 comes out, the M5 still rules them all. Then we'll see what's what.
