My Ride: 2005 545i, Orient Blue, Black Interior, Sport Package, Satellite
Latest Consumer Reports results following a review of the M35, A6, RL, GS 300 and V6 STS are below. Sorry I can't figure out how to paste HTML and I can't link to the site because its password protected.
I'm not saying I agree with the ranking, but I thought everyone might interested is seeing this. They certainly liked the M35. They said it is the highest ranked car period and is closely followed in ranking by the Acura TL (but not listed below because they classify it as an "upscale sedan" not a luxury sedan.) It is interesting that they liked the electronics control system of the M35-- which they said is very simple to use despite how complicated it appears at first. From a performance standpoint, they had a lot of good things to say.
By the way, I have an Acura TL in addition to my 545, and it is a very solid all around car, but it is nowhere close to the overall driving experience of the 545i with the sport package.
Its too bad they don't have a direct comparison of the new engine version of the 530i with the sport package and four wheel drive vs. the M35. It would probably score better, although, even with the new engine, I'm not sure it matches the power of the M35.
Anyway, it doesn't match my rating system which is more performance and handling based, and it doesn't match my tastes, but the M35 seems to be fairing well in reviews despite what I think is an ugly dashboard.
In order, best to worst:
Infiniti M35 X (V6, AWD) $50,240
Lexus LS430 $69,534
Mercedes-Benz S430 $83,800
Mercedes-Benz E320 $54,086
BMW 530i $55,370
Audi A6 3.2 $50,820
Cadillac DeVille DHS $56,990
Cadillac STS (V6) $50,335
Audi A8 L $76,470
Acura RL $49,670
Jaguar S-Type 4.2 $54,795
Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas $73,295
Lexus GS300 (AWD) $51,895
Volvo S80 T6 $49,200
BMW 750Li $84,145
