Interesting. I've read Yates' stuff for years in C&D. I realize it's become a shadow of its past glory, but it's still a better moto-rag than Motor Trend or [ackkkk!] Road and Track...can you say, 'amateur journalism?' TTAC just got a new member: me.

I now have BMWcar imported from the UK. C&D is is the pits now, no Brock, the recyled paper is lousy. I much prefer European Car or Road & Track.
C&D should merger with Motor Trend. It's all the same to me...

C&D fired Brock Yates a couple of years ago! He may have just started writing for the truth about cars, but his C&D departure happened in 2006...

Now I'll show my age, I remember that first article "Grosse Pointe Myopians" in C&D in the 60s. Yates was right then and he's right now. This evening I took a ride with a friend in a new Chevy Malibu, the Car of the Year. Its the same old GM crap in a new wrapper. And here I'm talking about concept and philosophy, not hardware. The three American manufacturers build products that excell in being average and fail to inspire or excite.
I remember Pres. George H.W. Bush going to Japan with the heads of the big three to get Japan to open its markets to US cars. The problem according to Bush was that the Japanese din't buy American cars. Of course that missed the point completely. The real problem was and remains that Americans don't buy American cars. And until they build cars that are worth buying they will continue to lose market share.
Yates is always informed and fun to read.
