Same spec how much does a 545i cost, verses a remapped 535d.

That's again comparing apples and oranges, because money has nothing to with it at all. This about performance. Period.

Juat done some quick research - Iceman, you suggest looking at BMW's figures:

The car needs to start moving before it can accelerate in gear! And in gear acceleration has to do with the traffic conditions and the driver. In any way, a 545 is ahead of you before it, because it left you behind at the start.

However, this qhole thread shows exactly what I meant before, and what I am sick of.

STOP those fuckin' stupid discussions! They are worthless! If you wanted a FAST car, you should have bought something else, and I don't even mean the 545...
You were looking for Diesel, so you had your reasons for that. Now don't try to tell anybody your car is the best or fastest. Not even a 545 is best or fastest.

Oh man too much debating... I'm glad I dont ahve to make that decision here... I cant choise from a 535d or a 545i... I only have one choice. Plus the diesel fuel here suck! so you'll prob end up with 100bhp filling up here in CA LOL.

Where has ANYBODY said that?

I take it you won't be coming over the channel to take the test then? (Obviously makes more sense for you to come here, than two of us come to you ;-) ).

I still don't agree with you regarding apples, organges, pairs or melons. There are a LOT of remapped 535d's in the UK. A remapped 535d is an entirely reasonable choice to make when deciding which E60 to buy. I'd be equally intrigued to see how a remapped 545i performs too - but I guess I'm just comfortable with the idea of modifying cars to remove some of the compromises a manufacturer has to make when taking a car to the market. If anyone has a remapped (and I mean just remapped, no sneaky Alpina superchargers sneaking in!) 545i, let me know.

Regarding your request to "STOP these ****** stupid discussions", if you own this forum fine, if not, step off telling me what to discuss here. If you don't want to participate in the discussion / road test, fine.

The diesel powered E60's will never sound as good as the petrol versions but the sheer power will astound. Ignore the 0-60 times! Its the mid range acceleration that counts. The 530d is 2 seconds quicker 50mph - 75mph in 4th gear (manual transmission) than the 530i (first e60 model)

I don't want to start a diesel is better than petrol argument but just wait and see what you think when you get them in the States.

I used to be a petrol head and then tried a 530d - I was astounded never looked back since.

That is what diesel guys always say, however this is an unfair comparison. First, the diesel gear box has a lower gear ratio meaning that it runs at higher rpms in a certain gear compared to a petrol version in the same gear at the same speed. Second, if the diesel is doing 50 mph in fourth gear it has like 35% of its rev range left, which will of course be very powerful. In contrast the petrol car will do the acceleration in the middle of its rev range, where there is not so much power available. Thus probably a comparison between petrol 3rd gear and diesel 4th gear would be much more appropriate. The diesel may be faster anyway but the margin would be a lot smaller.

By your request and because I don't "own" the forum, I am outta here.
And, yes, I will not come over to the UK and it's a waste of time for you to come here. Maybe I will not longer drive/own an E60. Maybe I am returning it tomorrow to my dealer and sue BMW.

Have a good day.
