I hate to loss this key :nono:  :P

This is not the first time we've heard that BMW is developing a more efficient way to lose both your car keys and credit card information, and now more details have emerged about its multifunction smart key. The Smart Key, which contains a security chip that can talk to a card reader over short distances, may start out with a smaller function set than it ultimately ends up with as the technology matures. Storing access passes for public transportation and information to facilitate electronic payments are two abilities that BMW feels will eventually appeal to consumers, for instance. More interestingly, the key can be used to carry your personal preferences from car to car like a dongle. Owners would have the fob personalized to their ConnectedDrive preferences, which would then make those options available in any BMW, not just the owner's personal car. It's a novel way to ensure that your favorite radio stations and other services travel with you, provided you always insist on a BMW.

Yeah, or until someone with a small "sniffer" scanned your information while your key was still in your pocket. Pretty soon we're going to need lead-lined material or some other type of steel mesh in our clothing to stop signals from our key fobs and credit cards from leaking out and to stop the (possible cancer-causing) radio waves that everything seems to generate these days from leaking in! :wow:

I'll take 4.

I like it and hope it sees daylight for mass production.

But if you people worry about loosing credit card identities or even the car than you should more worry about loosing your life...since the future is near when crackers will be able to access bmw update or even access the car on site (the same with sniffing) and fiddle around with the programming. For example release the brakes when and only when car exceeds 200 km/h. Think that is sci-fi? Well BMW already is working on implementing remote access to BMWs to allow certain functions like software updates and so on to run while the car is parked for a longer period of time.

So...conclusion if we all get too paranoiac about every tech update we see then maybe it would be better to return to Fred Flinstone's car.
