Just got this...fascinating reading....They pit a ferrari F430 against an M5........the M5 canes the italian stallion(pony).......obviously, there is more to it than performance but these are reputable journalists and they were totally blown away by how good the M5 was.

Hey Doc,
Don't feel too bad. If you want to have some real fun though try posting this thread on Ferrarichat or some similar website to see what a real flaming feels like! Those guys get very possesive of their prancing horses!
Autocar is now a sad and pathetic shadow of what was once a really informative magazine. The road testers on it these days are only a couple of rungs up the ladder from Max Power readers. On what grounds would a prospective purchaser ever consider an M5 against an F430? They might as well put the Mitsibushi EVO10 FQ2blah blah whatever against the M5 whilst they're at it. An equally absurd comparsion considering the target buying audience.

But it is nice to read re-assuring lines on just why you are spending so much on an expensive and rapidly depreciating lump of metal
I subscribe to CAR but only buy autocar if I spot a relevent article, I did subscribe to evo in the past but they are now just a subaruishifqblahblah mag.
Max Power.......dont swear at me !!
no offence intended or taken
DD.....still waiting for his Ferrari-Eater

I was offered an M5 today which was a cancelled order. Whilst deliberating I was beaten to it by none other than Johnny Wilkinson apparently. Ah well, he can better afford the depreciation than I can

Who's Johnny Wikinson.....is he that rugby guy????.....I'm more of the Hastings sisters vintage!!
This however proves my point that the "official" waiting time for an M5 is a bit of a misnomer.
If I could fit a wife and 3 little diesels into a 997, it would be a no-brainer but I cannot and therefore need a lardy saloon......just that the M5 is somewhat less lardy than anything else and I wouldn't have an E55 for all the tea in china!
