If you are quoting the new Consumer Reports rankings, that number would be 21 problems per 100 cars, not per car sold.

Thanks for sharing that; still, how do you find out about the 'most common problems' for the car?

I have
SES light on 2 times.
Door seals
Steering cranking
Broken headlight holders
Windshield cracked.
Runflat (not really BMW issue)
But.... I still love my 545i.

That's why BMW will never address its reliability issues! If they weren't so darn fun to drive, I'd be driving a Lexus.

Hi, how do you find out what the most common problems are with the e-60...2006 vintage?
1. I-Drive Related (Faulty control messages / Crashing / Being generally annoying / Software Update Issues)
2. Active Steering Issues
3. Dynamic Drive Issues
4. Door Seal noise and other very minor rattles
5. Run Flat Tyres (Noise and Wear)
6. Dopey Dealers
7. Steptronic / SMG gearbox - mind of their own issues.
8. Sticky window mechanisms
From what I understand 1, 2,3 and 7 are probably all linked to software gliches.
Most people seem to live with 4 and 8.
If you can work out how to deal with 6 - then I'd love to know
My experience was that these stupid issues, initially put me off my car and made me doubt the logic of my purchase. However, I'm over that now and am just enjoying driving a fantastic car.

How does Consumer Reports come up with this number? Do they ask each dealer for the # of problems fixed? Or does BMW USA consolidate these numbers to provide to CR?

So far I had some VERY minor issues (95% software related) - all have been fixed by dealer in one short visit by software upgrade. And my car is 04, not 06, so expect 06 to be a better car. All in all, this car has less issues than most my current and previous cars, so I'm quite happy.
