According to Swedish Motor Insurers, 4 out of 10 new models on the Swedish market have bad anti-theft systems.
BMW does not report what kind of measures or anti-theft system they have! Why is that?

Here's a poorly translatlated text from the article but I think you get the picture:

"Since two years back there is an anti-theft standard that will drive the car manufacturers to improve protection against theft. The norm, NVSA, New Vehicle Security Assessment, evaluates how well protected the car is against theft of the car, and protection against burglary in the car. It is about perimeter security; locks and electronic anti-theft systems like alarm and immobilizer and car identification so the car can be returned to its rightful owner.

In the latest review, there are about 70 new cars that have been launched from mid 2008 to 2010. 40 percent of them had poor anti-theft systems.
One problem is that many manufacturers do not report what type of theft protection they have on their new models.
This is the case of BMW, Honda, Kia and Mercedes-Benz. Chevrolet and Ford will be included in the review to come.

- I do not know why they do not want to report this, but it involves some investment to get the car to an approved level and they may not think they can get the payoff on the investment, "says Anders Edvardsson responsible for NVSA at Swedish Motor Insurers.
He added that the norm so far has led to a series of improvements. Opel and Suzuki have begun to report the theft protection of their models, which was not the case from the start. While other manufacturers have acted differently.

- Toyota has made the most interesting improvement. They went in and made changes directly in the ongoing production of its new Avensis to get it approved, "says Anders Edvardsson.
Another improvement is that VW has fitted alarm as standard in the new Golf.

About six out of ten car models are approved in the assessment. Close to four out of ten, 38 percent, may be described as Very good.
Among the best models include Audi, Porsche, Renault and Saab.
Brands like Citroen, Peugeot, Mazda, Subaru and Suzuki are at the bottom.

Anders Edvardsson says, however, "In the two years that the assessment program has been used, no car has been worse than what the manufacturer has declared"

Why should BMW announce their shield?

Maybe it's better so.

The only way to steal an E60 or any other modern BMW is with a tow truck. AFAIK you can't "hotwire" our cars...

In the event your e60 do happen to get stolen, immediately give the number above a call and provide them with the last 7 characters on your VIN# and they will track your e60 location, they will also call the police and help slow your e60 down.

cheers.
