Hi,
I found this in an aritle about what Honda has in plans for their future. This was something that I found interesting, as it somewhat sounds like Valvetronic.
Advanced VTEC
An advanced VTEC engine, scheduled to be introduced at the end of the 9th Mid-term, dramatically reduces pumping losses by controlling engine aspiration through continuously variable control over the amount of intake valve lift and phase of valve switchover timing. With innovative valve control and control of the length of the intake manifold, combustion efficiency will be increased by 13% compared to current i-VTEC engines.

There's no end to the copying.? I finally saw a new GS430 the other day and it has a Bangle Butt humpy trunk like the e60.

The GS has a "Dynamic Drive" suspension as well...

GS dynamic drive (Adaptive Variable Suspension) suspension is not the samesuspensi as BMW Adaptive Stabilisation on system which is self-levelising. In GS, user can only choose either "Normal" or "Sport" mode.
GS also copy Active Steering from BMW by renaming it with Variable-Ration Steering.

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!
Whatever Honda is doing with its engines, I'd be surprised if it is "copying" BMW. Honda has an outstanding engine shop, and their cars are engineered better than any others in the world (IMO). But they are a bit boring to drive, and they certainly offer nothing like the driving thrill available in the 545i!

Well, perhaps Honda isn't copying - perhaps it's just the natural evolution of engine tech. Even with such a charitable interpretation of the Honda announcement, one could say that BMW got there first. Many years ago too I might add.

[/quote]No question, Valvetronic is an outstanding technology for which BMW deserves kudos!

Good point. I hadn't researched it much but I'm not surprised that it falls short of the BMW tech. Still points to the fact that the others are endeavoring to even out the features list by adding stuff that sounds similar to BMW innovations.

Long Live BMW! Why am I not fond of Japanese cars? SO sad... I want to like them too... I really do but I dont... not really at least... in the end I'm still in favor of the German car. <_<

BMW is definitely among the top manufacturers in the automotive industry when it comes to innovation and pioneering new ideas. They may take a lot of negative press for their ideas (i.e. iDrive) but the masses soon follow (i.e. Audi, Mercedes, and Infiniti come to mind).
Oh yeah, one more thing...when it comes to motorsport engineering, BMW is the KING of normally aspirated engines.
