mini is part of BMW guys? there employed by BMW.
once the rot sets in......

"BMW announces 850 job losses at Mini car plant
BMW has announced that 850 workers at the mini car plant in Cowley, Oxfordshire are to lose their jobs. "
BMW blamed the new shift pattern on the "continuing volatile market conditions," announcing that work at the plant will not resume until February 23, with the new programme, including the job cuts, introduced the following week.

The key issue here is these staff are contract (agency) staff hence BMW are able to cancel their ?contracts promptly' without recourse to redundancy processes, benefits and payouts! Most will leave with nothing of substance - evidently some of these guys had worked for several years under these contracts. UK employment law allows this; one doubts BMW could be as ?agile? with their actions within other plants in Europe!
