Sorry if this is a repost but I don't remember seeing it...

Motor Trend, Automobile Magazine, and Speed Channel did a cool test of V8 cars against the twin-turbo Lincoln MK-S V6 "ecoboost" engine. Clearly, this whole project was likely just a big commercial for Ford but no matter the outcome, you have to see the video of the 550i sport with SAT taking it's run! (It actually looks like they stole my car for the test...)

Here's a link to the entire showdown:

And, if you don't want to see the whole thing, you have to at least take a look at the unedited version of the 550i run, driven by Rod Millen, by clicking here:

At 12,000 ft a turbo will have an advantage. It can still push max boost while a n/a V8 is getting only 2/3 the normal air/fuel.
But the final results speak for themselves. It's not just the power on Loveland Pass, handling can make a difference.

PS: My one time in Colorado in 1992, we had a Lincoln Town Car rental. We went to Mt Evans, the highest paved road at over 14,000 ft. At somewhere around 10,000ft, the Lincoln vapor locked and stalled. After 10 minutes, it started went a mile, and stalled again. It took us 1/2 hour to go the last few miles but we made it to the parking lot and hiked the last bit to the summit.

I guess in 17 years Lincoln has improved.

Yes there was a thread on this test. But I still love how the 550 blew all of its competitors out of the water. The car is an animal in the twisties.

That would be good old Jean (Lindamood) Jennings. She's been a fixture for many years in the US automotive press...

You've heard the saying "he has a face for radio" so I guess we can say that Jean "has a face for periodicals!" ;)

:barf: I love how the race takes place at high altitude. The sea level race results would be completely different
