Check out at Edmunds to see the latest review on the 550. From driving, comfort and quality standpoints, the testers really liked the 550. They are spot on regarding the prowess of the 4.8L engine, drivetrain and brakes. Truth be told, its a real bitch. Seemed to outclass the Merc and Audi they had on hand.
Okay, the usual BS on I-drive (sounds like Orwell's 1984) and a little shot at the high price, possibly somewhat deserved. They rightly mentioned the lack of storage, but who could care? And, BMW better not give up on the I-drive concept and resort to some touch screen BS because of the auto press.
One thing, the 0 to 60 times were sluggish for the manual. Like 5.6, .2 slower than spec'd. Nothing like the flat 5 reported in (I think) road and track. Heck, my step feels like 4 flat. A one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four thousand and, ah, better hit the brakes. Any thoughts?

5.6??? thats slow!
I'll have to go read that article now.
Touch screen isnt all that. I like the iDrive. whats good of a touch screen when everything is blocked out when the car is moving more than 5 mph? iDrive at least you can still use everything.

Can you image that 5.6 is now considered slow. My F10 will be a fat pig at 4.0 in 2011.

after driving my 5-er for 8 months now, I really must say I-drive is not the greatest invention BMW ever made; quite often have to use voice control as last resort.
not for the every-day-use of nav or radio, but the things you use only once or twice a year, like adjusting the clock to wintertime.
We should be realistic and grant that even a BMW can have designflaws (even BMW does: look how they upgraded the system for the upcomming X5: they ad EIGHT pre-settable BUTTONS, the things they wanted banned from the dash, after upgrading the current system 2 times, once from 7-series to 5 series, and than again last year in the 5 series)
