Looks like I will have to sell a kidney and order the 4.8 instead. I was going to order a 540i in Mar., after the facelift, but with two boys on the way, the E70 seems like the better choice.
A little off topic here... but which country has the highest taxes on cars? Where I amin the world the X5 4.8 is projected to cost around USD$160k! I miss living in the USA and Canada.

I'm suprised the 286bhp (twin-turbo) version isn't available at launch - especially as they've put it in the X3...?

well the talk i hear from my bmw rep ( ) is that the 286bhp part is not enough for a top of the range diesel x5... expect a revised 4.4litre v8 (from 745d)...
It is listed as coming, but not a launch car, my dealer says BMW have really messed up, loads of his punters are waiting for the 3.0sd sport to arrive and are not interested in the 3.0d this time round.
4.4 V8 diesel would be nice though, but the UK would probably not get it anyway.

I reckon that a 4litre-ish diesel version will turn up but will be stupidly expensive... The 3.0sd is definitely the way to go!

Indeed a new V8 diesel would be nice.
