i may just be having a mental breakdown but for some reason ive been searching for a clean e38 (best design ever for a 7 series) to make my new ride. im not sure why though. i only picked up my e60 a year ago and there are no issues with it at all. ive always loved the look of the e38 but for some reason i recently considered "downgrading?" to one. i did some light research/hunting and found a few on ebay that look clean (obviously a closer look is needed) and even contacted a local "luxury/exotic dealer" to find one for me. what do you think?

I agree that the E38 was the best looking 7 Series BMW ever made. Design themes are similar to E39 which I also dig.

Would I trade my fly E60 for one? No way due to a significant difference in performance and handling as well as a big march back in time in technology. & Series cars are just too big for my driving style and preferences.

But there is no right answer. The E60 and E38 are two very different cars. They are not really comparable. If you really want a E38 get it. As with any older BMW, I hope you have a damn good indy mechanic and the bucks to pay the repair bills that will inevitablly result. But the E38 is a beautiful, sweet looking ride.

Yes, exterior-wise I think it is a much much better looking car than either of its two successor 7 Series' generations.

I think you should do it. The old 7ers are sooo badass and robust looking. I am doing something similar. I sold my 545i for an E46 M3. To the old 7ers come with stick? These auto trannies don't like to go much past 100 if the fluid hasn't been changed.

A colleague of mine had an E38 on 20" Alpina classic rims, now that was an awesome looking 7er :thumbups: So I can certainly understand why you'd want to go for one. As long as you can deal with the repairs/maintenance, why not?! Good luck with your search...
