I got to test drive both a 328i and 335i coupe. The 328i was a steptronic and the 335i was a steptronic with the paddle shifters as well.
Being in the 328i it was quite obvious I was no longer in a V8 and the lack of power comparable to my 545i was obvious. However, the 335i is another story. I didn't feel any lack of power at all. The car screws. The steptronic is very smooth and noticeably smoother than my 545i. The paddle shifters are very fast and a lot of fun to use. My salesperson had me punch it. We were at 90 mph by the end of the on ramp to the highway. I have no doubt that this car will easily give the 545i a run. The exhaust note is also quite nice. Not quite the same as the 6 series but very aggresive sounding. When we were under an overpass you could hear it echoing. It was very sweet.
Anyway, I highly recommend going to test drive a 335i. Even if you have no intentions of getting one. It is just a blast to drive. I can't wait to get mine!

Leave a bmw v8 for dead? Perhaps on paper, but in the streets, those tenths of a second is insignificant.
Hassle an M3? It's a car's length at the 1/4 mile (CD has M3 @107 mph)

400 Nm at 1300 - 5000 rpm - that's it!
