The 325d is a 3.0 litre... which makes no sense at all frankly. It is also 197bhp, which I believe is detuned from the 'normal' 3 litre diesel.

Odd.

Why is it odd? It's 'detuned' (Or looking at it the other way it's not as 'highly-tuned') to improve emissions/fuel consumption/flexibility... Commercially, it was probably cheaper/simpler to re-engineer the existing 3.0d engine that create a new 2.5d (The 2.5d/3.0d/3.5d will be using the same base-block)

Look at it this way, it's better in every respect 44.1mpg vs 42.2mpg, 197hp vs 177hp, 171g/km vs 179g/km, 7.4s 0-100km/h vs 8.1s, 146mph top vs 143mph. Same (limited) 400Nm peak (but far better spread) to allow the manual gearbox to be fitted...

I think a better name would be the 328d but that would sound odd!
