New navigation on the 1, 3, and 7-series with HDD and more
Not sure if this has been posted.
Looks like a giant leap forward for idrive. It might end all those negative mag reviews.

Definitely a huge leap forward here, and some really nice improvements to boot. I'm assuming that the fact that these are not coming to the 5er in Sept 2008 simply means they are being saved for the F10 launch.

My Ride: 2008 528i: Silver/Black/Light Wood, ZPP, ZCW, STEP, Comfort Seat, Heated Rear Seat, PDC, Xenon, Nav, iPod. 35% ceramic tint, VentureShield clear bra.
So why isn't this coming to the 5 series? It's understandable to go to the LCI 3 series and the new 7 series, but the 1 series was just launched; since the 5 series has 2 more years before the F10 launch (2009 and 2010), I don't think the buyers will be happy with the old iDrive system when you can get the nicer ones in the lower end models.

There appear to be some great additions to iDrive. It will be interesting to see how they work in practice.
Getting the Prof. NAV working quicker is THE absolute (safety) must-have IMHO -- I hope they get this right.
(When I tested the LCI Prof. NAV I was very disappointed at how slow the maps updated. Whilst driving in the city I kept finding myself having to lookwhether the maps had updated to give me the next directions, instead of concentrating on the road. With the Business NAV its provides less detailed maps, but it does provide almost instant map changes, so you only need to look once and not keep checking until it finally updates.)
I agree with TMQ, seems a little strange that the 1er will get this but the 5er won't. I was not aware of another 1er refresh?
