Based on bmwusa.com, the new E90 330i is able to do 6.1 from 0-60 with manual transmission. That is just 0.3 seconds away from 545i. Is the new R6 engine really that powerful? If the new 530i with the R6 engine able to do 6.1s too, IMO the sales for 545i may be going down.

I don't think the 530 will perform the same and as far as I know, it never has compared to the 330. The weight difference between the 5 and the 3 is the reason.

I think the current E60 530i is faster E46 330i. 530i = 6.9s and 330i = 7.0s (correct me if i'm wrong).

According to BMWUSA

330I (M) 6.4 (A) 7.0
530I (M) 6.6 (A) 6.9

According to Car and Driver

330I (M) 6.1
530I (M) 6.7

Basically, so close it that there really isn't a difference. I'm surprised by that though as the 330 feels much faster. Did the perfromance increase for the E60 530i over the E39 530?

I think, you're sitting in a smaller and lighter car so it'll also "feel" quicker.

The E90 330i will be a hot car. Excellent performance, agile and bigger than the E46. Cheap on the fuel as well!!
For me though, can't look back to a 3 series. Have had them for 8 years...it's 5 series and above from now on.
