Hehe, just kidding.

Well, not really, I actually did get a 1988 E30 325iX for the winter. And I got it for free, so I'm not complaining!

Actually, what happened was a little more interesting: driving to work one morning in my E39, I'm sitting behind a Chevy Avalanche waiting to turn out of a subdivision. All of a sudden, I see the reverse lights come on in front of me, and next thing I know...bang! I'm thinking to myself, oh, this is going to be bad. Crap.

So I get out and look at it, and there's a barely-visible indentation from the truck's trailer hitch attachment in the front bumper cover (directly beneath where the front license plate would be, which I'm technically supposed to have in my state  )...I immediately knew that was a front bumper cover replacement, and I almost felt bad because it was just one of those freak things...he was taking his kid to school because he missed the bus, on the phone, thinks he sees his kid's bus turning in, didn't look behind...you know the drill.

Anyway, he wanted to take care of it without his insurance, and I said that was fine. He was a little surprised that the estimates I got were both around $800. I didn't hear from him for a couple weeks...then, to my surprise, he contacted me and said, "Hey, I'm going to take care of this, but I was wondering if you might be willing to consider an alternative...I have this all-wheel-drive 3 series BMW that I don't use anymore since I got the avalanche. Would you be willing to take that in lieu of cash?" I said I'd have to look at it, of course...so I did, and sure enough, it's a nice little E30 325iX, 170K miles, in pretty darn good shape considering it's seen a decade and a half of Wisconsin winters and salt.

I figured it would be a fun little car to tinker around with, not to mention great for those winter days where the E39 doesn't *quite* cut it. :)

I think you got a good deal das! Now we need to see pics of the poor E39...

das, I believe you came out far better than getting your bumper replaced. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Envious and happy for you.

How much can you sell it for? That's the measure of the deal. Looks good though. Happy driving.

Exactly; I looked around a bit and comparable 325iX's were going for around $4000, so I think I shouldn't have ANY problem. Even if I wanted to dump it quickly for, say, $2500, I'd still come out ahead more than double the amount of money I would have gotten otherwise.

that little thing is in a very good condition :wow: except some cracks on the seats. but hey, 16 years old. some 16 years old have the same cracks on their faces . even if that guy asked you to pay him $800, still a good deal !
